One of the things I enjoy about Christmas is the anticipation of Christmas morning. The tree is loaded with gifts underneath, family coming over from all over, the house is still and warm opposed to the cold outside. It’s the only morning of the year where the kids wake up the parents. They can hardly stand it! They know that gifts are waiting for them and even though that can’t see it they eagerly await that moment when they can open their gifts.
The Advent of Christ promised in the Old Testament is much like this child like eager anticipation on Christmas morning. The Old Testament saints couldn’t see the promise but knew one day it would come. They truly did live by faith in the future grace promised by God. Eyes couldn’t see this grace, but their hearts felt the reality of the coming King.
Our text today shows us this very thing. Turn with me in your Bibles to Isaiah 7:1-17.
